With summer in full swing, we see a refreshing number of tournaments kick back up globally, ranging from 3 to 7 rounds each!

With no crystal clear victorious army surfacing from this weekend we do know there are three main contenders for that coveted top slot.
Adepta Sororitas, Harlequins, and Chapter Marines all held the same amount of overall places in the top 5, with the Sisters taking first at the largest of the recent events!

Utilizing Hive Tyrants and hard hitters in the form of Screamer killers, this list proves durability can win you some games on its own.

The new Imperial Knights Codex has been updated from Games Workshop today. It brings a decent amount of changes to a few different stratagems and tactics. While nothing SWEEPING, the changes will help the Knights sweep their enemies.

UPDATES & ERRATA
Page 64 – Household Traditions
Replace each instance of ‘Freeblade’ with ‘Freeblade unit’ and
each instance of ‘Freeblades’ with ‘Freeblade units’.

Household Traditions Change Explanation:

This is just a cleaning up of the verbiage in this section to make it clear. No real changes here.

Page 77 – Noble Combatants
Change this tradition to read:
‘Each time a model with this Martial Tradition fights, if all of its
attacks target one enemy unit and none of those attacks are made
using the Sweep profile of a melee weapon, after resolving all of
those attacks, it can make a number of additional attacks against
that enemy unit equal to the number of attacks that did not reach
the Inflict Damage step of the attack sequence during that fight
(these additional attacks cannot be made using the Sweep profile
of a melee weapon).’

Noble Combatants Change Explanation:

The big chainsaw swords that Knights to possess have two attack modes: Sweep and Strike. This new change allows the use of Strike for the Noble Combatants ability. Previously, you could use neither.

Why it matters:

The Strike profile is a high damaging and high AP attack at Strength 14. Being able to gain an additional attack from your failed rolls really increases the probability of inflicting more damage.

Page 84 – Exalted Court
Add the following to the second paragraph:
‘A model cannot have more than one Exalted Court upgrade.’

Exalted Court Changes Explanation:

As expected this change limits the amount of Exalted Court abilities in your army overall. Previously you could have up to 10 Exalted Court abilities. This wasn’t a common strategy, but it could have technically be done. Now, you can only have one.

Why it matters:

Now, you’re not able to stack all of those upgrades on one model. Previously, you were able to stack Monarch’s Ward and Gate Keeper which would have allowed you to make an extremely durable Questor Imperialus character.

We haven’t seen anyone who has stacked them, and this could have been a pretty tough character to beat, but it’s gone now.

Page 105 – Burdens, Mark of Dishonour
Change the last sentence to read:
‘This may mean that different Chivalric abilities are active for
models with this Burden than are active for other Imperial
Knights models in your army.

Burdens, Mark of Dishonour Changes Explanation:

The only change here is that the word ‘Tradition’ has been changed to ‘Burden’.

Why it matters:

Essentially, this change ensures that the player understands that this is a detriment to their forces and not a boon.

Page 111 – Dominus Battle Traits, Pillar of Honour
Change the last sentence to read:
‘This may mean that different Chivalric abilities are active for
models affected by this ability than are active for other Imperial
Knights models in your army.’

Dominus Battle Traits, Pillar of Honour Changes Explanation:

This crusade rule changes the word tradition to ability.

Why it matters:

This is another simple verbiage change for Crusade Play.

Page 126 – Knight Paladin, Reaper Chainsword
Change the Armour Penetration characteristic of the Sweep
profile of this weapon to ‘-3’

Knight Paladin, Reaper Chainsword Changes Explanation:

This change gives the Knight Paldin wielding a Reaper Chainsword a reason to use Sweep instead of Strike all the time.

Why it matters:

This increases the efficiency of the damage output by 16.5%. Additionally, this increases their amour penetration by a further -1. This will offset the benefit from Armour of Contempt. Which is a pretty big deal!

Page 132 – Weapon Profiles
Change the Range characteristic of the Thermal Cannon to ‘30″’

Weapon Profiles Changes explanation:

This is an interesting change. Dropping the range of the thermal cannon from 36″ to 30″ not only reduces it’s threat range, but also further reduces it’s bonus damage from half range targets.

Why it matters:

This means you have to be within 15″ to get the bonus damage instead of 18″ to get the bonus damage. Essentially, you’re going to have to move your Knights into much closer range.

The Chaos Space Marines for 9th Edition have finally arrived and it’s time to get down to dissecting the top tactics for Heretic Astartes. This new codex comes jam packed with tons of new rules, new miniatures and new ways to cavort with daemons and reign terror on your enemies. Let’s dig into the Top 5 Chaos Space Marine Tactics after we take a quick look at the codex in general first.

Why should you play Chaos Space Marines?

When considering playing Chaos Space Marines there are a few questions you should ask yourself before sinking your hard earned cash into a new army. First, are you tired of the Imperium? Let’s face it, no one is a “good guy” in Warhammer 40k – it’s all dark, it’s all evil and the driving forces of the Imperium only churn out misery and death.

Second, if it’s all evil all the way down – are you the kind of person that would just embrace it? If you’re the kind of person that would jump headlong into a pact with an evil being from another dimension, well congratulations you should say goodbye to the Imperium and hello to your Heretic Astartes brethren.

In all seriousness, if you’re looking for a new, powerful, and interesting army to play – with a lot added to them that they did not previously have Chaos Space Marines is the way to go.

Chaos Space Marines Army Overview

In the past Chaos Space Marines didn’t quite match up to their less daemonic bretheren in the Space Marines. They lacked a lot of the special rules and tricks up their sleeves that regular Space Marines, from any faction, seemed to have. With the release of this new codex, however, that’s simply not the case. And we’re not just talking about the fact they get two wounds…

Honestly, Games Workshop has outdone themselves with this codex. We’re not even going to begin scratching the surface in this article with all of the very unique and interesting rules, objectives, and tidbits that they have come up with. It really makes Chaos Space Marines thrive in 9th edition.

Chaos Space Marines Tactics:

We polled our pro players for their thoughts on the top 5 tactics they’d like to see employed by Chaos Space Marines players now that the new codex has dropped. Our pro players consist of Colin Mcdade, David Villareal, Josiah Cook, David Hall and a few others that always place consistently in the top tournaments when they enter.

Chaos Space Marine Tactic Number 1:

Stack Lucius The Eternal with 9 Noise Marines with Sonic Weapons inside a Dreadclaw Drop Pod.

Then, come down on your first turn to take advantage of the half range rule. You’ll get +1 damage on their sonic weapons.

Then the Noise Marines can make a charge-in and have Lucius make the enemy unit fight last and be able to make mince meat of them.

Chaos Space Marine Tactic Number 2:

Don’t be afraid to push forward with Abaddon The Despoiler. He’s a monster and deserves to be treated as such. He’s durable and hits like a truck.

First, he can only take 3 wounds a phase. That automatically makes him super tough.

Second, he has a 2+ armor save and as infantry can benefit from cover, benefits from Look out Sir (Models cannot target a unit that contains any Character models with a Wounds characteristic of 9 or less with a ranged weapon while that Character unit is within 3), and Armor of Contempt.

Third, opnce per turn the first failed saving throw he takes 0 damage, and he has at least 9 attacks in melee that will do 3 damage each and d3 mortal wounds for each roll of a 6 to wound.

Push Abbadon to the front and let him do what he does best!

Chaos Space Marines Tactic Number 3:

This is a simple one: combine the Chaos Land Raiders (who have toughness 9) with the Iron Warriors.

The Iron Warriors have no re-roll to wound against them.

This is a serious nut to crack and you should be able to slaughter your foes across the table.

Chaos Space Marines Tactic Number 4:

Combine nine Obliterators with Alpha Legion.

Deep Strike two squads while you conceal the third squad on the table.

The third squad will be unable to be targeted by any other unit on the table unless that squad is the closest.

Again, another powerful combo that should devastate your opponents.

Final Thoughts on Chaos Space Marines Tactics

We’re very excited to see how CSM bring some really exciting combos to not only our Battle Reports, but also the meta in competitive play. Will they carry the weight to see the top of the podium at tournaments? Time will tell.

As always we’ll be having a discussion all day today about the new codex in our free Facebook group: Game Talk for Gamers. Every. Single. Day. We talk 40k and today we’ll be discussing the new Chaos Space Marine Codex!

Lastly, want exclusive tactics on how to wreck your opponents in 40k with Chaos Space Marines? Our 4 Pillars of Army design will do just that and we’ve got Chaos Space Marines in our members area. Not a member yet? Let’s fix that.

The biggest update to Warhammer 40k has arrived, the June 2022 Dataslate has arrived. This update brings a host of changes to armies across the board. Some armies have received massive boosts and others have been balanced down. Let’s take a quick look at some of the biggest changes.

Adeptus Custodes June Dataslate 2022

Adeptus Custodes

Adeptus Custodes got a slight boost with the strat cost change going away.

Death Guard

Death Guard vehicles got a huge buff with armor of contempt being added to them and now scions don’t break the “Hammer of the Emperor Ability”.

Aeldar June Dataslate 2022

Asuryani

Hail of doom doesn’t get a secondary ability for their craft world selection. Fire and fade was a huge nerf for being once per game. Eldritch storm nerfed.

Harlequins June 2022 Dataslate Update

Harlequins

Harlequins both top faction selections hit hard and they’re dominance in the meta will likely wain.

Tyranids June 2022 Dataslate Update

Tyranids

One of the cool things about Tyranids is their adaptive biology. Before the game starts you could swap out their abilities. Meaning you could counter your opponents army strategically. That’s gone now.

Tyrants needing to be the Warlord now means you’re required to take tyrant guard because if you lose your Hive Tyrant you no longer get imperatives based on the rules change.

Tyranids can’t swap out their adaptive traits which means list building is less flexible for them as well.

June Dataslate Final Thoughts

This is a really big change to a lot of armies and it will be really interesting to see how things pan out in tournaments in the coming months.

We’ll be discussing this huge change to the Dataslate in our Facebook group Game Talk for Gamers.

Games Workshop has dropped the latest field manual: Munitorum Field Manual 2022 MK II and there are some definite winners and losers from this update. The nice thing is that all of these updates are now free to everyone and available online for everyone to view (check the link above). If you’re not familiar this update replaces what’s in your Codex for the most up to date and balanced play.

Let’s dive in and see what the big changes are and who are the winners and losers. We’ve polled our group of pro players for their thoughts on each army.

Field Manual Winners:

Sisters of Battle

Sisters got point drops on a lot of key units like Sacresants and Zephyrim which were already good, now they’re better. That coupled with the changes to how miracle dice are more plentiful. Sisters might be a top contender now at events

– Colin McDade

Necrons

Immortals, ctan and destroyers all got decent point drops. They were all staple Necron units.

– Colin McDade

Orks

Orks got point drops on a lot of units that were already being seen in competitive play like Goff Beast Boyz in Kill Rigs with Commandos. All of those units got point drops.

– Colin McDade

Notable Mentions:

Thousand Sons

Looks like thousands got a slight buff. Weapon upgrades on Rubrics are cheaper and icon of flame looks to be free on them as well.

– David Hall

Character Units

The character units are more viable as every model in the unit doesn’t give 3 victory points.

So chaplain Grimaldus if you killed him you gave up 12 vp from just 140 points of your army. Now that 140 only gives up 3 vp if your opponent takes assassinate
The reason being is chaplain Grimaldus is as the chaplain and 3 Servitors in one unit for 4 models.

Now assassinate is just 3 VP for killing the unit.

– David Villareal

Field Manual Losers

Aeldari

Eldar got mild drops that will affect them a lot overall.
Hail of doom is the main Eldar play style and nothing else after that will be anywhere near as good.
Hail of doom nerf is rumored to hit tomorrow which will gut Eldar.

– Colin Mcdade

Blood Angels

Blood Angels received 2 pt drops on Sanguinary Guard and Death Company Marines which are staple units. Since Blood Angels players take 20+ of each of these units with 10 DC, you’re taking 60 pt + drops to Blood Angels lists.

Blood angels are going to see a resurgence in play and some people were already doing decent with them.

– Colin McDade

Tyranids

Tyranids got all of the good units hit in point nerfs. It’s going to take time for people to find a new “meta” list. So Tyranids will see a drop in win rates.

– Colin McDade

Airbrush white softly around where you painted white and where you feel it would reflect at, (Helmet, knees, arm).

We’ve been given teases, we’ve been given glimpses, but this is our first gander at all of the core units from the Leagues of Votann and they are glorious. The Hearthkin Warriors in all their glory are finally presented. Take a look at these incredible new units to be added to the army formerly known as Squats: \

About the Hearthkin

These hardy clone warriors form the core of the Kinhosts, and unlike the Adeptus Astartes, they are not bred solely for war. These soldiers are citizens drawn from the populace of the Holds, regardless of gender, job, or social role. They’re Kin who have undergone rigorous martial training, yes, but they also have fulfilling lives outside of war.

40k LoVHearthkyn Jun20 Details1

Each unit of Hearthkyn numbers 10 to 20 strong, and is led by an experienced Theyn. These doughty squad leaders have the honour and responsibility of commanding their fellow Kin – and are able to arm themselves with a variety of hand-to-hand combat weapons, including brutal concussion gauntlets and vicious plasma axes.

40k LoVHearthkyn Jun20 Details2

Theyns communicate with their squad with the aid of cybernetic implants – relaying strategic instructions from the commanders of the Oathband to their units, who carry specialised heavy weaponry such as L7 missile launchers, EtaCarn plasma beamers, and magna-rail rifles.

40k LoVHearthkyn Jun20 Details3

The Leagues of Votann believe that nothing is worth doing unless it is done well, and they wage war as methodically as any other pursuit. If the cost of the fight cannot be justified, they’ll retire from the battle in good order. Every commander, from Theyns to the grand leader of an Oathband, will ensure no Kin lives are wasted in the pursuit of victory.

To help limit unnecessary loss of life, squads of Hearthkyn often go to battle with experienced field medics (or skilled engineers, for Ironkin) who can tend to any injuries. Be they mechanical or meat – no Kin gets left behind!

Final thoughts on the Hearthkyn

We can’t wait so see the codex from this newly updated and rereleased and revamped army.
